Mehdi Hasan: "

How do we stop the ongoing killings in Syria? It is an urgent and important question but one that defies a simple or easy answer.

Let's be clear: Syria is a human rights disaster. The revolution's death toll now exceeds 6,000 and thousands of others have been "disappeared" into the country's mini-gulags, to be tortured and starved. Syria's third-biggest city, Homs, is under daily bombardment from shells, mortars and machine-gun fire."

The Russians have sensibly suggested: "Stop the violence and negotiate".

Some Elephant in the Room matters ignored in the current Western debate about the Syrian civil war.

1. It is appalling that 6,000 Syrians have died in the violence but one is disgusted by the sheer hypocrisy of the anti-Syrian Government stance of the UK, US, NATO and Apartheid Australia , war criminal countries variously involved for 2 decades in a racist and genocidal War on Muslims that has so far been associated since 1990 with 12 million violent deaths or deaths from war- and/or occupation-imposed deprivation, the breakdown being 0.2 million (Palestine, 1990-2012), 4.6 million (Iraq, 1990-2012), 2.2 million (Somalia, 1992-2012), 5.6 million (Afghanistan, 2011-2012) and 50,000 (Libya, 2011-2012), these estimates being consonant with under-5 infant deaths totaling 0.1 million, 2.0 million, 1.3 million, 2.9 million and [data not yet available] respectively (90% avoidable and due to US Alliance war crimes), and refugees totalling 7 million (Palestinian), 5-6 million (Iraqi), 2.0 million (Somali), 3-4 million (Afghans), 1.1 million (Libyans, including 1 million Black Libyans) and 2.5 million refugees generated by US war in NW Pakistan (for details Google "Muslim Holocaust" and "Muslim Genocide" ).

2. The under-5 infant deaths per 1,000 births is 199 in US Alliance-occupied Afghanistan and supposedly 44 in US Alliance-devastated Iraq (possibly twice that figure; the traitorous Maliki Puppet regime is falsifying mortality data) as compared to 19 in Gaddafi Libya, 16 in Assad Syria and 8 in the US (see UNICEF: http://www.unicef.org/infobycountry/ ). Do Syrians really want to be "liberated" by the war criminal, mass infanticidal US Alliance?

3. What sort of Libyans wanted the devastation of their country and killing of 50,000 of their fellow citizens by the France-UK-US (FUKUS) Coalition? What sort of Syrians are likewise calling for a US Alliance "no-fly-zone" over Syria and hence devastation as in Libya (50,000 dead) and Iraq under sanctions (1.7 million excess deaths from war-imposed deprivation and 1.2 million under-5 infant deaths, 1990-2003) (Google "Iraqi Holocaust" and "Iraqi Genocide").

4. Read William Dalrymple's brilliant book "From the Holy Mountain" and discover that Syria - albeit under Assad dictatorship - has been and remains a haven for religious tolerance and for presently 1.3 million refugees from US Alliance-devastated Iraq, the racist Zionist Palestinian Genocide and from racist Zionist (RZ)-ethnically cleansed Golan Heights (Syria has a population of 22 million but according to UNHCR: "The Syrian Arab Republic hosts one of the largest urban refugee and asylum-seeker populations in the world": http://www.unhcr.org/pages/49e486a76.html ).

5. No doubt the Syrian civil war could be conducted on both sides with much greater care for civilian lives, but if Dr Assad were to face the International Criminal Court ICC he would have to take his place at the end of a very long line composed mainly of Western leaders complicit in the 12 million victim Muslim Holocaust, notably Bush I, Bush II, Clinton, and Obama (US), Blair, Brown, and Cameron (US), Harper (Canada), Sarkozy (Nouvelle Vichy France), Merkel (neo-fascist Germany), and Howard, Rudd and Gillard (Apartheid Australia).
